Cost guide
Electrician cost in Malaysia: what affects the price and how to get a fair quote
You have been given a quote and have no idea if it is fair. This guide shows what changes the cost of electrical work, which tactics push the bill up, how to compare quotes and what to ask before you say yes.
What affects the price
Two quotes for the same job can differ for good reasons. These are the real ones.
New wiring vs existing wiring
Fitting onto a circuit that is already there is cheap. Running a new cable through walls or ceilings is the big cost.
Number of points
Later points in the same visit are cheaper than the first. Bundle jobs into one visit.
Wiring method
Surface casing is cheaper than concealed wiring behind walls or ceilings, but looks different.
Access and height
High ceilings, tight roof spaces and condo rules add time and setup.
Age and condition of the existing system
Old or mixed wiring, worn breakers and a crowded board can turn a small job into a bigger one. Faults are separate jobs.
Materials and fittings
Many listed prices are labour only. Cable, switches, fans and light fittings are extra unless stated.
Red flags: how to avoid being overcharged
Cheap-deal-then-upsell is the most common complaint in community threads. Watch for these.
- 01
No price until the work is open
A fair job has a price you can agree to before work starts, in writing.
- 02
"The whole board must be changed" with no proof
Ask for a photo of the problem part and a separate price. A single breaker or a loose connection is often the real fault.
- 03
Price per point suddenly changes
Confirm the number of points and the price per point up front.
- 04
Unclear what registration the pro holds
For new circuits or changes to the distribution board, ask what registration applies and have it confirmed before you agree.
- 05
No way to reach anyone afterwards
If a socket trips the next day, you want a thread and a name to follow up, not a missed message.
How ProSquad quotes
ProSquad is not a rate card; we coordinate vetted independent pros on our network. Use the questions on this page to judge any quote, ours included.
- 1You send what you need, how many points and a photo on WhatsApp.
- 2A coordinator replies with one fixed price and what it includes.
- 3A pro comes in the arrival window you agree.
- 4Anything extra is raised in the chat with a price, and only done if you say yes.
