Tradesman labour rates in KL & Selangor
Is the quote you were given fair? Rates differ by trade and by job, so this guide explains what drives the labour charge for a plumber, electrician, aircond servicing and handyman work, and how to compare quotes before you say yes.
What changes the price of a tradesman
Two jobs with the same name can cost very different amounts. These are the usual reasons.
Callout vs labour
Some quotes add a callout on top of labour. Ask whether it is included.
Materials and parts
A fair quote lists materials separately from labour so you can compare.
Access and height
High ceilings, tight ducts and walk-up flats can add time.
Urgency and timing
Same-day or out-of-hours jobs may cost more. Ask before you agree.
Number of items
Electrical and aircond work is per point or per unit, so bundling several items often lowers the per-item cost.
Red flags in a tradesman quote
Not every low price is a bargain, and not every high price is a rip-off. Watch for these.
- 01
A "from RM__" price with no detail
The final number often jumps once the work starts. Ask what exactly the price covers.
- 02
"This part is spoiled" with no proof
Ask for a photo of the fault and a price before agreeing to extra work.
- 03
No itemised breakdown
One lump sum for a multi-item job makes it hard to compare. Ask for labour and materials split.
- 04
Pressure to decide on the spot
A fair quote still stands after you think about it.
How ProSquad quotes
ProSquad is not a rate card; we coordinate vetted independent pros on our network. The factors above help you judge any quote, ours included. Coordinators answer on WhatsApp any time.
- 1You send the job, your area and a photo on WhatsApp.
- 2A coordinator replies with one fixed price and what it includes.
- 3A pro comes in the arrival window you agree.
- 4Anything extra is raised in the chat with a price, and only done if you say yes.
Plumber: what drives the labour charge
One "plumber job" can be a tap change or a hidden leak, so the charge follows the fault, not the trade. Whether there is a callout fee, how hard the pipe is to reach, whether a wall or floor must be opened, and which fittings are needed all move the total. Ask for labour and parts to be listed apart.
Electrician: what drives the labour charge
Electrical work is mostly charged per point or per item, so the total grows with how many sockets, lights or fans you bundle. Wiring method, distance from the distribution board and whether existing wiring must be changed matter too. Rewiring is quoted per project after the pro sees the place.
Aircond servicing: what drives the labour charge
Aircond is charged per unit. The type of job (normal service, chemical wash or full overhaul), the horsepower, whether it is a wall or ceiling unit, and how easy the unit is to reach change the charge. A very low "from" price often covers the basic job only, so ask what is included.
Handyman: what drives the labour charge
Handyman visits mix several small jobs, so the charge depends on how many items are on the list, how long they take, access and any materials. Bundling the whole list into one visit is usually clearer than paying for several separate trips.
